Levels of Evaluation and Service to Fit Your Need and Budget
 |
| Furnace Carbon Monoxide testing | Existing Home Assessment Your NSEC consultant is equipped to do a variety of diagnostic tests and the testing for each property is tailored to the specific conditions of the building and the concerns of the owner. A basic whole house evaluation will typically include visual inspection of insulation levels; condition and installation of exhaust equipment, space and water heating equipment; blower door testing; infrared camera scanning (as temperatures allow); ventilation equipment testing; carbon monoxide testing of gas appliances; worst case depressurization testing; exhaust draft testing of gas appliances. As circumstances require, duct leakage testing and zone pressure diagnostic testing may also be needed. A typical assessment requires 2-3 hours. The homeowner is highly encouraged to participate since it is a very educational process.
Existing Home Rating The evaluation includes all the testing and inspection typically included in an assessment with the addition of more detailed measurement of building components and computerized analysis of the home’s energy consumption. This analysis is capable of providing investment vs. savings calculations, equipment sizing calculations, and other reports as circumstances dictate – including the reports needed by lenders for approval of Energy Efficient Mortgages. Ratings will typically require 3-4 hours at the home. Homeowner participation is welcome.

| Gas Appliance draft testing | New Construction and Remodeling Consulting Your NSEC consultant can get as involved in a remodeling or construction project as the home owner or contractor wants. NSEC can do computer modeling based on plans for calculating energy efficiency. We can produce the documents needed for UDC plan approval relating to energy code. We can provide up front recommendations for changes in plans or materials to assure energy efficiency and good ventilation. If desired, the consultant is available for on site visits at critical points in the construction process to advise you on details relating to air sealing, insulation, moisture control and ventilation. NSEC can also provide testing of the completed house to assure that ventilation equipment is working as planned, combustion equipment is working safely, air leakage levels are not excessive and that air pressures are balanced.
Your NSEC consultant is capable of walking the builder and the home owner through the process of having a new home certified as an ENERGY STAR home.
All these things help assure efficiency, comfort, safety and durability of the home – whether it is new construction or a major remodeling project.
